Academic partnership with Swiss School of Management

 

 

Swiss School of Management having Management School setup in Italy, London and headquarters at Switzerland has joined hands with Chandigarh Business School, Landran to form academic alliance in order to provide world class education in the field of Business Management. The academic alliance would enable the undergraduate students currently pursuing their BBA degree from CBS to pursue higher education at Swiss School of Management, while those pursuing their post-graduation course of PGDM can opt for dual degree program.

Dr. Massimilioino Bracale, President, Swiss School of Management discussed the proposal with Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman and Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, Chandigarh Group of Colleges during his visit to the campus. Dr. Bracale lauded the efforts of the management for providing world class infrastructure to the students of the region.

While interacting with the students, Dr. Bracale informed them that the Swiss Banks manage about 1/3rd of world’s total capital. “Switzerland is known for providing Quality in what ever they do”, he said. Dr. Bracale further added that Switzerland has the world’s best Business Schools, Polytechnics, Hotels and Hospitals. The common thinking to make our students as the best professionals in their field has brought us and CBS Landran together sharing common platform. With some of their students working for organizations like United Nations, Swiss Bank, the students of CBS in association with Swiss School of Management will also get International opportunities.

Satnam Singh Sandhu and Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal welcomed the proposal put up by the Swiss School of Management to form academic alliance which would enable the students of CBS, Landran to earn Swiss degree along with their Indian Degree which would add to their professional and academic life and will ultimately enhance their employment options.         


Chandigarh Business School, Landran, Mohali organizes a National Conference on “ A new vision of marketing in the 21st Century: Opportunities and challenges for India  Inc”

Chandigarh Business School, Landrn, Mohali organized a National Conference on “ A new vision of marketing in the 21st Century: Opportunities and challenges for India  Inc” on 12 & 13 Sep,2008. The two days conference comprised of 3 technical sessions on the first day to include retail, services and e-marketing. The speakers amongst others included Mr Kamal Vadera, CEO, TCY online, Dr Prem Kumar, Advisor, Vardhaman group, Mr KA Ravi, Sr VP,Swamy Vivekanand BBDO, New Delhi, Mr Arpan Agarwal, Director, Northstar Safety Solutions and Mr Balwant Gurunay, Corporate Trainer.
The conference turned out to be a grand success and all the participants were thoroughly impressed with the deliveries of the experts.
The conference later witnessed research based paper presentation by the   various Academic Institutes. The students participated whole heartedly and asked a large number of questions to clarify their doubts on various vital issues of marketing scenario of 21st century.
Mr Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman and Mr Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal thanked the distinguished speakers for their valuable time to deliver their addresses in the conference and also the faculty for their presentation of research based papers. They emphasized the need for a strong research cell for the Chandigarh Business School so that it may meet the requirements if the Industry  not only in Punjab but also at the National level. They complimented Dr SPS Bedi , Director for organizing a successful conference.


Seminar on “Indo US Nuclear deal- A boon or a Bane”

Chandigarh Business School organized a seminar on the topic” “Indo US Nuclear deal- A boon or a Bane” on 29th July, 2008 at CBS campus. Eminent speakers like Mr Kanwar Sandhu, Editor, Hindustan Times, Dr Pramod Kumar, Director Institute of Development and Communication, Chandigarh, Prof MM Puri, Ex VC, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Prof UC Singh, Ex Dean Academics, Punjabi Universty, Prof H S Mehta, Ex Head, English Deptt, P.U. Chandigarh spoke on the subject and later participated in a panel discussion. The seminar remained like a live wire with all the speakers giving their views in a very forceful and effective manner. The presentations made by the speakers answered all the questions that were lurking in the minds of the participants. The students actively participated and asked intelligent and meaningful questions which were amply appreciated and answered by the speakers. The Seminar was an unparalleled success of the “Team CBS.”


Lecture was organized by CBS on Leadership for Modern Times on Friday, 4th july, 2008.

An Extended Lecture had been organized by CBS on Leadership for Modern Times on Friday, 4th july, 2008 for which Mr. Vinay Mehta, CEO, Pole Vault Technologies, Chandigarh was invited as a guest speaker at CBS. He emphasized on the significance of Leadership Skills in the recent times for tailor-made managers for the holistic development of  the organization. The lecture was followed by an interrogative session conducted by the guest speaker to quench the thirst of budding managers in which the students participated actively & enthusiastically. The students found the session very informative and useful. During the lecture, the Director, CBS, the Dean, CBS and the other faculty members were mainly present.


Orientation Course for PGDM 2008-2010

CBS organized the inaugural ceremony of its New Batch of PGDM 2008-10 on 23rd June 2008. The inaugural ceremony started with lamp lighting and prayers. The new students were formally welcome by the Mr. Satnam Singh Sandhu Hon’ble Chairman, Chandigarh Group of Colleges and Mr Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, Hon’ble President, Chandigarh Group of Colleges. In their speeches, they called upon the students to work round the clock to gather maximum knowledge and improve upon their personality as well as communication skills to beat the global competition.

 Dr. G.D Bansal, Director General, Chandigarh group of Colleges apprised the students of the vision and mission of the group and plans for providing the world class instructions to the students . He assured the students of excellent placements provided they equipped themselves with requisite  skills during the next two years. Dr. (Col) SPS Bedi, Director CBS briefed the students about the CBS, PGDM curriculum, teaching methodology, assessment system and placement plans. He also emphasized the need of rounding up the rough edges of personality and sharpening of communication skills to ensure worth while placements. He also called upon the students to be punctual and well disciplined to gain maximum mileage from the training.

The students were also addressed by Dr. H.S. Saini, Principal Chandigarh Engineering College and Er. A.C. Sharma, Director HRD & Administration.

Later, the new students were taken around the complete campus of Chandigarh Group of Colleges to familiarize them with the various constituents of the group. The students seemed to be extremely happy to be a part of the leading educational hub of Chandigarh the city beautiful.

Chandigarh Business School, Landran, Mohali has taken a new leap by organizing a six weeks duration Orientation Course for their Student-Managers of PGDM Batch 2008-10.

The Inaugural Ceremony was conducted on 23rd June wherein the Student-Managers of the Chandigarh Group of Colleges were briefed by various functionaries of the Group.

The Student-Managers were taken around the sprawling campus area including various Colleges and allied facilities.

The Orientation Program comprises of activities like Personality Development, Communication Skills Development, Motivation, Team-Building & Leadership exercises. The Students-Managers will also be exposed to various difficult subjects of the curriculum to include Financial Accounting, Managerial Economics, Statistics & Quantitative techniques. A series of guest lectures have also been planned wherein eminent speakers from corporate sector and academia will share their views & experiences on various topics of importance to the Management students. CBS is confident of bringing all the Student – Managers on to the same frequency before the main course content of PGDM commences in August this year.   


Lecture on Cross-Cultural Management was held on Wednesday, the 14th May, 2008.

Mr. Paul Brothe, Managing Director of the U.S based multinational giant Quark India, visited the Chandigarh Group of Colleges on Wednesday, the 14th May to deliver lecture on Cross-Cultural Management with special reference to Mergers & Acquisitions to the students of Chandigarh Business School. Mr.Sofi Zahoor, Director – HR, Quark India accompanied the visiting dignitary. Mr. S.S. Sandhu, Chairman and Mr. A.C. Sharma, Director-HRD of the Chandigarh Group of Colleges extended a hearty welcome to Mr. Brothe.

Delivering his lecture Mr. Brothe said that Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) is the key to growth in the present era of globalization, for the corporates, countries and even economies. He cited the examples of corporates from around the world such as, Tatas, Microsoft, Cisco etc. to make his point. Notwithstanding 60 per cent of the cases turning out to be  failures in Mergers and Acquisitions, it does not undermine its importance. Mr. Brothe cited language, organizational structure and technology as some of the problems that need to be tackled for smooth M&As. His lecture was followed by a question- answer session in which Mr. Broth along with Mr. Zahoor answered the enthusiastic queries from the students and the faculty members. Dr. G.D. Bansal, the Director-General of Chandigarh Group of Colleges thanked the visiting dignitaries for the informative and thought provoking lecture and for visiting the institute.


Hero Mind Mine Organized a PD & Communication Skills Workshop at Chandigarh Business School on 22nd April’08

 Hero Mind Mine a reputed company in the field of training & development conducted a workshop for the students of Chandigarh Business School. Mr. Vishal Gupta a Sr. Training Consultant & Mr. Robin S Grewal engaged the students in a gripping & educative session to impart training in personality development & improvement of communication skills. They also organized interesting games to draw some valuable lessons for the participants. The students & the faculty thoroughly enjoyed & benefited from the workshop.  


HR Seminar on “Transformation of HR in the Emerging Global Order” organized on Saturday 19th April 2008 by
   Chandigarh Business School, [CBS] Landran at “Hotel Mountview, Chandigarh”.

The Seminar was divided in the three technical sessions, with two tea breaks and a lunch; each session addressed various critical issues related to HR. In all 12 speakers from Industry and academia participated in the seminar.

 

 

 

 

 

A brief report of the events on the day is as follows:

Inaugural Session:

The Seminar began with the formal Lamp Lighting and Saraswati Vandana. S. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman and S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President Chandigarh Group of Colleges welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries to the Seminar. Mr Sandhu in his welcome speech expressed his gratitude to the dignitaries and speakers for having spared their valuable time to address the audience on a burning topic of utmost importance when the entire world is looking towards India for providing manpower of sorts for future business undertakings.

 

 He said that India is a country of the youth and there is unlimited potential available not only to meet the domestic requirements of manpower but also to cater for the global requirements. He said the aim of this seminar was to deliberate on the vital issues related to the topic and to publish a report which may be helpful in future planning of the country.

 

 

 

 

Dr [Col] SPS Bedi, Director CBS gave the Seminar Overview.

  Dr. S.K. Salwan ( Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, PTU, Jalandhar) delivered the Inaugural Address. In his address he recalled the sterling qualities of Human Resource Management possessed by Former Indian President, His Excellency  Dr. A.P.J Kalam. He cited several examples as to how a leader can inspire, motivate, counsel & build his team to operate at optimum level of efficiency. He called upon the participants to be prepared on the global competition during the days ahead. The HR functions of Hiring, Placement, Training, Motivating, Compensating & above all retaining the skilled manpower will ave to be made more effective so as to avoid cost of retraining, replacement etc.

 At the end of inaugural session Dr. G.D. Bansal, Director General CGC thanked the Chief Guest for having spared his most valuable time to grace the seminar. He thanked him for his words of wisdom on tips how to handle the human resource effectively. He appreciated the examples of former Indian President cited by the Chief Guest in support of team building, motivation & leadership of the human resource. He also thanked media persons, speakers & other participant who had contributed whole heartedly to make the event of success.

 First Technical Session theme was “Talent management for cooperate excellence in a boundary less world”. Mr. Sofi Zahoor, Director HR-Quark in has presentation explained the talent management model based on performance & potential grid. He advocated that while the employees high on potential & performance need to be retained at all cost, the employees low on both the scales need to be divested. The remaining employees need to be counsellors, trained & motivated to performance & show an upward movement in the grid.

 He defined talent as the combination of right knowledge, right skills, right competence and right attitude. Knowledge acquiring is a continuous process and one has to believe in life-long learning. He said that organisation and the position also have to be made rewarding to attract talented individuals.

 Dr. Suresh Kumar, HP University, Shimla expressed that Talent identification and management has been prevalent in India from ancient times. He quoted examples from Indian scriptures Ramayana and Mahabharata to support his point. He stressed on the importance of interdisciplinary knowledge and a positive learning attitude for talent development. He further highlighted that one of the greatest challenges of today for HR managers is talent retention. There is no dearth of talent in India (36% employees at NASA and 34% at IBM are Indians). He gave the 123 formula for effective talent management according to which hire 1 man, pay him the salary of 2 and give him the work of 3.

 The Second Session was on topic ‘HR in Global Economy Emerging Trends’

Mr Shashank Jagirdar, Vice President, TUI talked about HR in global economy and the effects of these changes in India.  He said HR in global economy has to be concerned about issues like mergers and acquisition. He stated that there are certain sectors that are witnessing speedy growth and HR has a major role to play.  Improving HR is not like improving product quality. The main issues that HR has to deal with are cultural shock, keeping employees motivated, compensation for efforts and understanding strengths and weakness. The new challenges for HR manager are corporate recognition, changing demographics, reforms for work place, changed expectation of employee and a new industrial relation approach. He shared 2 clippings to prove that India is on the march and performing extremely well.

 Mr. J. S Ghuman, GM. HR and Administration PunCom talked about the rapid changes in business environment. He said that the frequency of innovations has increased and one can witness lots of innovation in ones life span. Also there is reduced gap between maturity and inception. In the face of changing business environment the organization does not have much time to change. They look forward to a diversification that’s non linear in nature and also discontinuous. The source of competitive advantage is innovation.

 Mr. Shastri Ramachandran, Associate Editor, The Tribune deliberated on new paradigm in HR. He said the organization need to change the overall strategy for HR in the face of changing business environment. New issues are surfacing for HR to resolve. Human resource Planning process has to be in tune with the changes. He also identified certain issues like attrition, succession planning, leadership, employee development work fore deployment and redeployment.

He further talked about quantifying the HR functions. He enumerated the most important functions of HR. He said hiring is an independent profile center. The HR manager has to manage the workforce diversity and also technology, which is a necessary evil. The HR functions should be judiciously outsourced. He advocated outsourcing and also presented two case studies of successful outsourcing of HR helpdesk and Exit interviews. He stated that outsourcing can improve the overall functioning of the organization.

 All that is required is to build functional teams, motivate & train them to achieve school to kill type efficiency in their respective fields. 

 In The Third Session was on topic ‘HR: Imperatives, Challenges and Solutions’

Dr. M. A. Zahir, Chairman VP-HR, Trident Group, Synetic Business School, Ludhiana opened Panel Discussion by giving his valuable views on the theme and raised the following three issues:

1.   HR Imperatives

2.   Challenges before HR people

3.   Solution of challenges

Panel members expressed their diversified view in different context.

 Col M.S Dhaliwal, VP (Admin) Groz Beckert said that main challenge is the implementation of HR practices with values & ethics and reduction of tension among working employees, arising due to rapid changes in environment. He further maintained that power, authority and speed of command are the imperatives. He found solutions of challenges through Knowledge Management.

 Dr. Upasna Joshi, Head –HR, Regional Centre, Punjabi University, Mohali perceived HR Imperative as challenge of encashing opportunity with positive attitude. She said that solution is to maintain growth of working force with mission & vision of organization. She focused on the service, quality and productivity. In her opinion it is difficult to retain useful employees. She also said that solution is to be aware of the employees problems & offering them feasible & possible solution. One has to be proactive in meeting the expectations of the talented workers and keep them engaged

 Mr. Keshav Sachdev remarked that challenges may be totally different for different HR Heads keeping in view the nature of industry and rate of rapid changes in environment. Further, there is no single formula to face the said challenges. Every HR Head should use innovative techniques to solve the challenges in the limelight of global & domestic environment.

 Towards the end, Er. A.C. Sharma , Director HRD & Admin, CGC delivered the vote of thanks and thanked all the speakers who made a valuable contribution to the proceedings of the seminar. He also thanked the delegates, Students, faculty members who made untiring efforts to plan and execute the seminar in a clock like precision. He also thanked the media and others for their contribution to the seminar.    

 Overall the seminar was a grand success and provided the students a good number of speakers to share their views on various sub themes of the seminar.


 National Seminar on “e - Governance for Good Governance”

Chandigarh Business School organized a National Seminar on “e - Governance for Good governance” on Saturday March 15, 2008 at CBS campus, Landran”, Mohali. Mr. Ramesh Inder Singh, I.A.S, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Punjab graced the occasion as Chief Guest & delivered the “Inaugural address”.

 Sh. N.S. Kalsi, I.A.S, Secretary Employment Generation & Secretary Technical Education, Punjab delivered the “key-note address”. 

The National Seminar comprised of three technical sessions. In the ‘First session’, the theme was “e - Governances : Empowering people through ITES” This session was addressed by Sh. Deepak Nanda, M.D. & C.E.O SME Business Services Ltd., Mr. Harish Gupta, IPS, Joint Commissioner Hyderabad, Mr. Lovneesh Chanana, Deputy General Manger, IBM & Mr. Rohit Singla, Project Director, HCL Info systems .

 The theme for the ‘Second technical session’ was “Changing role of Govt. as facilitator” The speakers for this session included Mr.Vevek Atray, Director Public Relation & Tourism, Chandigarh Administration, UT, Dr. Sanjay Tyagi, Additional Director & Centre  Head STPI, Dr. Mufeed Ahmed J&K University & Sh. Gurinder Pal Singh, Sr. Manager HR, Satyam Computers.

 The “Third session” was a panel discussion on “e - Governances, Challenges & Vision” The participants in this session included Dr. Mufeed Ahmed J&K University, Sh. Manmohan Singh Head IT Services Division, Semi-Conductor Laboratory, Mohali, Mr. Rohit Singla, Project Director, HCL Info systems & Mr. J.S Bhatia Director, C-DAC.

 Sh. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, Chandigarh Group of Colleges  delivered the welcome address, Dr. S.P.S. Bedi, Director, Chandigarh. Business School delivered the seminar over view & Dr. G.D. Bansal, Director Principal, CEC delivered the vote of thanks.
