Brief details of the event highlights: The HR Symposium was a 2-day event held on 18 th &19 thMarch, 2019 at CGC Landran, Mohali. The inaugural ceremony was held on 18 thMarch 2019 with lamp lighting followed by a Role-Play activity for the students in which 27 teams participated. The idea behind role-playing activity was to enhance the problem solving and decision-making skills of the budding managers. A situation to exercise managerial skills effectively was given to each team and they were asked to enact a role-play.
On 19th March 2019, HR symposium began with an address by Hon’ble Chairman, Satnam Singh Sandhu, where he addressed the students on the benefits of happiness at the workplace. He focused on the importance of monetary as well as non-monetary satisfaction for happiness at workplace.
Key note address was delivered by Mr. Kunal Nandwani, Co-Founder and CEO, UTrade Solutions Pvt. Ltd. He propelled on the main theme of creating a Happy Workplace and spoke about the significance of a good working environment in carrying out the challenging roles. He further suggested having flexible HR policies.
Key note address was followed by 2-panel discussions. The theme of first panel discussion was Role of Cross-Functional Professionals. It took place amongst the panel of HR Practitioners from industry and Academia. The first panel comprised of Ms. Carol Tilt, Professor of HR & Accounting, University of South Australia, Mr. Shantanu Awasthy, MD, Programic Asia Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Anuj Saihjpal, AVP Circle HR Head, Axis Bank, Punjab who gave valuable learnings to students that Empowerment and Clear Communication are the key factors that can help make an organization a Happy place to work. The session was moderated by Dr. Ramandeep Saini, Dean International Affairs, CGC, Landran.
The theme of second panel discussion was Challenges for HR Professionals. The second panel comprised of Prof. (Dr) P.N.Hrisheekesha, Campus Director, CGC Landran, Mr. Vivek Atray, former IAS and motivational speaker, Dr. Ramandeep Saini, Dean International Affairs CGC Landran, Mr. Naveen Chaudhary, Co-Founder, Uncap Research Labs who gave the following mantras to students.
Response of the audience/ learning for the students
All the participants were elated to be a part of the HR Symposium. Role playing activity on first day helping them to enhance problem solving and decision making skills. A situation to effectively use Managerial skills was given to teams and the members were asked to enact a role play. They also learnt the applications of different management techniques and strategies to tackle varied situations in an organization.

Learning Outcomes: It was a great learning experience for students as they participated in Role-play competition on 18 thMarch 2019 and also from the panel discussions held on 19 thMarch 2019. The experts gave them insights into challenges and measures to attain a happy workplace. They learnt that by loving their job and by having the right attitude, aptitude and foresight an employee can contribute in creating the happiest workplace. Not only this, by following 7 C’s – Cheerfulness, Character, Creativity, Calmness, Contentment, Compassion, Clarity; one can have a happy workplace.
Experts Narration: The eminent experts gave their valuable feedback to students on how happiness can be achieved at workplace.
Mr. Kunal Nandwani: Happiness is not confined to monetary benefits only rather it is driven by one’s passion. He also stressed on constantly reviewing retention and employee friendly practices.
Mr. Shantanu Awasthy: He considered himself to be ‘People’ person and is of the firm view that employees are assets to an organization. Also creation of a happy workplace is not the sole responsibility of HR managers; rather it is the matter of concern for all of the stakeholders.
Mr.Vivek Atray: Emphasized on 7C’s-‘Cheerfulness, Character, Creativity, Calmness, Contentment, Compassion, Clarity’ and Ambience, Attitude and Aptitude. Expect the Happiness from within or from intangible things. Prof. (Dr) P.N. Hrisheekesha: Emphasized on the ‘Spiritual Quotient’ at Work Place and importance of respect for each other in organization.
Mr. Naveen Chaudhary: To create a happy workplace, one should understand himself and the organisation, Cohesiveness, Inclusion and Common Goals’ leads to creating happiness. Dr. Ramandeep Saini: She expressed that it is very important to have two sided communication in organizations. Also one should know about his aspirations and expectations.
